Dear Parent/Guardian,

January was surely a busy month! In addition to getting back into our routines at school, we also had parent conferences, the Spelling Bee, and the Geography Bee. Congratulations to Henry Sutherland and Reid Griswold, who represented our classes in the Spelling Bee! Congratulations also to Max Rivera, Kallin Brady, Reid Griswold, and Henry Tauscher, who qualified to participate in the Geography Bee! Way to go guys!

Reading/Social Studies:

In the past few weeks, the students have studied the events leading up to the Revolutionary War, Paul Revere’s historic ride, major battles of the war, and what is was like to live at the time of the American Revolution. This week we are learning about the challenges of becoming a new nation. Students will be doing centers this week to learn more about The Articles of Confederation, the first constitution of the United States. Students also continue to practice new spelling words and patterns weekly.

ELA/Writing:

Beginning last week, students began writing a five paragraph essay based on the prompt, “What is the best animal to have as a pet?” Students formed opinion statements, backed up with three supporting reasons, and spent time in class researching to find evidence to support their positions. We have been working on developing essays step by step, one paragraph at a time. Students should be completing their essays and beginning the revising/editing process at this point. Final Copies are due by Monday, February 10th.

WANTED!!!

We are in need of glue sticks, index cards, graph paper, and tissues. These are supplies that the students use regularly and any donations would be greatly appreciated!

Just a Reminder…

  • Any work not completed in class should be taken home to be finished.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to make up any work missed when absent.
  • I am available for office hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings, before school at 8:05. This is a great time for students to check in regarding missing assignments, to get extra help, or just to have a quiet space to work.
  • Family Fun Night is this coming Saturday, February 8th from 5:30-7:30. Don’t miss it!
